All it takes is a little trust.
Newt and Wisp is a short animated film about a salamander named Newt, meeting a Will O’the Wisp named Wisp. Wisp tries to deceive Newt multiple times, trying to lead him to his death or danger, but out of sheer dumb luck, Newt successfully survives and keeps following the Wisp, not realizing the risk to his own life. After a bad turn of events, Wisp is forced to decide whether to help Newt or abandon him, after all it has done. Will it help him? Or will it turn away and leave him to his demise?
Newt & Wisp
This whole animation was created from scratch by yours truly. I illustrated all of the backgrounds, the characters and props, and animated everything through Toon Boom Harmony. I created the sound using different free snippets and some music I created in Adobe Audition and Garage Band.
In this animation, Wisp stumbles upon Newt, a tiny orange fire salamander, who isn’t quite all there in the head. Despite his lack of intelligence, Wisp attempts to have some fun by trying to kill his prey, similar to Tom and Jerry, or Wile E Coyote and the Roadrunner. The goal was to make it cute and attractive for children and families to watch and be entertained. There is a message to this small animation, and that’s not to trust everyone you meet, and sometimes a little trust is all it takes.
